GIVING TUESDAY - WHO TO SUPPORT?

As you are hopefully aware, Giving Tuesday happens on 27th November. If you haven’t already made plans but are looking for someone to support on the day, we have three recommendations!

  1. Toto Care Box provides antenatal training for ladies from difficult circumstances. Those who complete the training receive a box filled with life saving items once they have given birth….and the box doubles up as a safe place for the baby to sleep, complete with a mattress and mosquito net.

Toto Care Box is campaigning to raise funds for 100 boxes by Christmas. Each box costs 3,000ksh. They are looking for a professional in marketing to help them with this campaign and their marketing in general.

  2. Vision Africa works closely with children, their families and communities to ensure the provision of appropriate, high-quality education and training to children of all backgrounds and abilities.

Vision Africa has purchased a plot of land in Ngando, Nairobi, and is fundraising for the costs to construct a purpose built vocational and enterprise training centre. Their campaign is called “Buy a block, help build futures and every 50/- donated will buy a building block for the foundations of the new centre. They are looking professional help with communications.

  3. Uweza Foundation was founded in Kibera in 2008, and today provides 300 Kenyan children and youth with unique opportunities to pursue a path to a better future through the discovery and development of their talents and abilities – gaining education and ultimately earning incomes that utilize their own inherent strengths.

Uweza currently has 6 programs including Uweza Soccer Academy and Uweza Art Gallery. Through the art gallery, students are able to pay their own school and university fees by selling the art work they have created.

This Giving Tuesday, Uweza is looking for funding for art supplies and professional volunteers to help in:

HR - mentor youth about choosing and pursuing a career, interview skills, job searches, and/or writing a CV

Entrepreneurship/Small Business – provide training for youth interested in starting their own small businesses

Finance – provide financial fitness/budgeting training for youth

Public speaking/marketing - training artists how to market their work
